At Heguru Education Centre Singapore, parents may recognise the guessing games we play in almost every lesson.

“How many?”

“Which one is yellow?”

“What do you think it is?”

These may seem like senseless guessing games, but they serve a deeper purpose.

They give children opportunities to observe, make connections and exercise their intuitive thinking.

What Is Intuition, and Why Does It Matter?

Neuroscience recognises intuition as a natural aspect of human cognition - not a mystical or psychic power.

Intuition is our ability to arrive at a judgement without consciously reasoning through every step. It can draw on past experiences, learned patterns and information processed by our brains outside conscious awareness, from a young age.

Life does not always give us complete information or enough time to analyse every detail. Sometimes, we rely on experience and instinct to guide our decisions.

What Eileen Gu Shared About Intuition

At the Karim Family Foundation’s Inspiring Women Leadership Series at Singapore Management University (SMU) on 12 October 2026, Olympic champion Eileen Gu reflected what artificial intelligence can never replace human in sport.

She explained that even when her physical data suggests she is ready to perform, she may still feel that something is not quite right. If her subconscious has not fully “bought in” to a trick, executing it successfully becomes much more difficult.

Her reflections highlight an important point: in a world increasingly driven by data and artificial intelligence, she continues to trust her own intuition and subconscious mind in her decision-making.

How Heguru Education Nurtures the Power of Human Subconscious Mind and Intuitive Sense

At Heguru Education, our guessing games are not merely activities to keep children engaged. They form part of our broader approach to whole-brain development, providing opportunities for children to exercise their intuitive sense and subconscious processing, something they may have fewer opportunities to practise in their everyday life.

Consider what happens during some of our familiar activities:

  • “How many?”

  • “Which one is yellow?”

  • Guessing through touch

With repeated practice, some tasks may become more intuitive, fluent and automatic, allowing children to sharpen and use their intuitive sense without consciously working through every step.

This is the meaningful connection to Eileen Gu’s reflections: just as an athlete draws on extensive training and experience, children build their learning foundations through repeated opportunities to engage with information and apply what they know.

While guessing games may not guarantee stronger intuition, they provide purposeful opportunities to practise cognitive skills that contribute to learning, pattern recognition and judgement.

Beyond Knowing the Right Answer

At Heguru Education Centre Singapore, we believe that learning goes beyond memorising facts and finding the correct answers. It is also about developing how children think, make connections and respond to unfamiliar challenges for a holistic wwhole-brain and whole-child development.

Our goal is to nurture the foundations for confident, flexible and independent thinking through rich and varied learning experiences.

The next time you watch your child participate in one of our seemingly simple guessing games, you may appreciate them a little differently.

Sometimes, the most meaningful learning happens in ways that are not immediately obvious.
